edu1The museum provides field trips for student groups up to 100 in size. Presentations on various topics are available in the Education Wing with emphasis on addressing State Academic Standards. Docents are available to guide and answer questions during tours. Teaching resource kits are available to supplement classroom topics. Admission is free to school groups within DeKalb County, $1.00 per student for groups outside DeKalb County. Admission is free to teachers, leaders, chaperones, and bus drivers.

The museum recommends one chaperon for every 8 to 10 students. All tours must be arranged on less than ten (10) days prior to date of tour. Average touring time: 2 hours (115 cars, seven galleries, two floors).

Presentations - Time varies according to need

A staff member from the museum will visit your school. Presentations on various automotive topics can relate to economics, manufacturing, auto mechanics, science, business, art, history, architecture, or other topics. For small groups, a classic 1931 Auburn sedan can be brought to your school for a demonstration on how a vintage car was built and equipped (subject to availability & weather).

Research Assistance -

Students researching topics for reports or term papers can utilize the resources of the museum’s archives. The museum contains an extensive collection of automotive books, photographs, periodicals, manuals, biographical materials, corporate histories, and blueprints. Teachers or students wishing to use the archives should contact Jon Bill to make arrangements. (260)-925-1444 ext. 19

Assembly Line Simulation - Approximately one classroom period

edu2A model truck assembly line can be set up at the museum to teach your students how a modern production line operates. Students are assigned “jobs” to perform as a model wooden truck is assembled from the frame to the finished product. Ideal for 12 to 30 students. Best for grades 5 through 10.
